BRIEF: Nurse accused of stealing painkillers from nursing home
Tribune-Democrat - 12/21/2017
Dec. 21--A Somerset woman was charged with stealing drugs from the nursing home where she once worked, authorities said.
Berlin Borough police charged Christine M. Steinkirchner, 47, of the 300 block of Hugus Street, with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
According to a criminal complaint, Steinkirchner was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Meadow View Nursing Center, 1404 Hay St., Berlin.
Steinkirchner allegedly stole $251.47 in prescription medication including oxycodone, hydrocodone and percocet over eight months, the complaint said.
Police allege Steinkirchner failed to document medication that was for Alzheimer's and dementia patients into a computer system from March 2017 to October 2017.
"During this time, a total of 277 discrepancies were noticed," the complaint said.
The discrepancies were uncovered during an audit, and the state Department of Health was notified, the complaint said.
Steinkirchner will answer the charges before District Judge Douglas Bell of Meyersdale at a later date.
